Orphism is a concept of art that originated in 1910, influenced by futurism, expressionism and cubism.
France was the a place of origin of the new branch. A poet Guillaume Apollinaire was the first who define the term. He was a friend of Robert Delaunay, who became the most brilliant representative of the genre, as well as F. Kupka, F. Picabia, M. Duchamp.
The artists tried to convey the dynamics of motion and musicality of the picture, using the contrast of tones. Сolored circles and lines were more often depicted on the paintings, demonstrating the intersection of the planes. This drawing technique created a feeling of rhythmicity and movement.
The creators focused on light and color, proclaiming them more important than the narrative. It was the variety of colours that distinguished the French branch from Cubism.
To understand the differences, it’s enough to look at the works of masters of orphism art: Robert Delaunay “Red Tower”, “Woman with an umbrella”, “Pig landing in Paris”, “Simultaneously open windows”, Sonia Delaunay “Market in Minho”.
The concept’s development led to the creation of the abstract art and further transformation. Where the possibility of experimenting with form kept its first position.
